National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month - "Join the Voices for Recovery, Now More Than Ever"

Sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, the recovery month public health campaign is designed to highlight the societal benefits of substance abuse treatment and to promote the message that recovery from substance abuse in all forms is possible. Families and communities play a vital role in promoting healthy outcomes for all children. Today’s youth are less active, less likely to eat healthy  and are growing up in communities that may not be conducive to physical activity or provide access to healthy, nutritious foods. 17 > Vicarious Trauma & Its Impact on Service Providers

Vicarious trauma occurs when the service provider experiences various symptoms as a result of their attempts to assist the client. the most common term used to describe vicarious trauma is “burn out.” Vicarious trauma can occur swiftly after a single event or can build up over years as the service provider continues to bare witness to the adversity that their clients face. The impacts of vicarious trauma are often unconscious and in that way can be building to a crisis point without the individual being aware of the damage that is being caused. Working with local and state law enforcement agencies, the DEA will coordinate to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation's medicine cabinets.
