CT Gov. Rell Releases Teen Safe Driving Proposals

Governor M. Jodi Rell today, April 1, 2008 released 20 new draft proposals on teen safe driving that aim to further broaden the state’s overhaul of the licensing, regulation, education of young drivers. “I am pleased to report the Teen Safe Driving Task Force continues to look at recommendations for curbing the senseless traffic fatalities involving teens,” said Governor Rell. “Frankly, these tragic accidents have sent a clear message that more needs to be done to protect teen drivers by enacting new laws and raising awareness." Should Drunken Drivers Have Special Licenses?

A proposed law in Oklahoma appears to be among the first in the nation that would require convicted drunken drivers to have a special mark placed on their driver's licenses. Lawmakers hope the designation, which would remain on licenses for up to four years, will induce bartenders and others to refuse to sell as much alcohol to those with previous drunken driving convictions.

Underage Drinking Legislation (Effective Oct. 1, 2006)

Public Act No. 06-112, AN ACT CONCERNING UNDERAGE DRINKING.
Previously, Connecticut law prohibited minors from possessing alcohol in public  places, but did not prohibit them from possessing alcohol on private property. HB5211 An Act Concerning Underage Drinking addressed this loophole in Connecticut's underage drinking laws by holding both teens and adults accountable  for the problem of underage drinking. This bill provides legislative support to parents, who don't expect their children will be allowed to drink alcohol at another  parent's home. It sends a consistent message to everyone that underage drinking is unhealthy, unsafe and, unacceptable everywhere.
