Youth Suicide in Connecticut
Results from the 2007 CT School Health Survey report that in the previous 12 months, among CT high school students:
22.8% felt sad or hopeless for more than 2 weeks
13.1% seriously considered attempting suicide
9.8% actually attempted suicide (significantly higher than the national average of 6.9%)
From 2000-2006 in Connecticut, suicide was the second leading cause of death among teens ages 15-19 and the third leading cause of death among young adults ages 20-24.
From 2000-2006 in Connecticut among persons ages 10-24, suffocation/hanging was the most common method of suicide
completion.
